Susan Sinek
Susan Sinek, born in London, has lived in South Africa, Hong Kong, and now resides in Fort Lee, New Jersey. She has studied art and fashion at several universities, including Twickenham Art School, Chiswick University, and the Faculty of Arts at the University of Hong Kong. Sinek began her career as a fashion designer with two major London fashion houses and went on to do work designing promotional clothes for an advertising agency as well as freelance fashion design, fabric design and fashion photography.
Primarily working with acrylic, charcoal, ink, graphite, and gold paint, Sinek creates feeling and expression using sensitive lines and bold passages. Her pieces often make use of balance between space and figures, reflecting her study and appreciation of Chinese brush painting. Sinek seeks to evoke energy and vitality in her work by capturing the presence, atmosphere and personality of the spaces and figures she paints, draws, and prints. Specifically, Sinek is also known for her empty room series, a selection of which has been exhibited at the gallery. These “lonely rooms” are rendered using charcoal, graphite, and acrylic, creating a ghostly atmosphere featuring chairs now vacated and objects left behind.
Sinek’s work can be found public and private collections in London, Amsterdam, Toronto, Bern, and several cities across the United States. She has been included in group and solo shows at Broome Street Gallery Soho, Bernard Heller Museum, Belskie Museum, Bergen Museum, the New York Public Library, and many others. She is a member of Salute to Women in the Arts, the National Association of Women Artists, and New York Society of Women Artists. Her work premiered at the gallery’s February-March show Go Figure! in 2022.
