Robert Ludwig’s paintings and drawings are geometrical and indeed limited to a few horizontal and vertical divisions. Their efficacy derives from the precision of the tonal - spatial relationships. The various degrees of texture establish ambiguities between flatness and the appearance of depth and stasis and the illusion of incipient motion.
