Looking Forward
Carter Burden Gallery is pleased to present its first national juried exhibition Looking Forward, juried by artist and feminist educator Nancy Azara. The reception will be on Thursday, November 18 from 4 – 7pm; proof of vaccine and masks are required. The exhibition runs from November 18 through December 17 at 548 West 28th Street in New York City. The gallery hours are Tuesday - Friday, 11 a.m. - 5 p.m., Saturday 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. The gallery will be closed for the Thanksgiving Holiday starting on Wednesday, November 24th at 1:00pm and will resume regular business hours on Saturday, November 27th at 11am.
In adherence with the NYC Safety Mandate Program, Carter Burden Gallery requires proof of vaccination or a recent/within 72 hours negative PCR COVID-19 test result, and masks are mandatory for all at exhibition receptions. This is in effect as of August 16, 2021, until further notice.
Featuring 68 artists Looking Forward highlights works in a variety of media by artists from around the region and nation.

Guest Juror Nancy Azara writes, “Things are uncertain in so many ways for all of us. With this comes the unknown, with endless possibilities for new ideas. Nancy Azara is an artist and feminist educator best known for her large-scale wood sculptures and mixed media collages. Her work is found wood, carved, ornamented and mounted. Instinctive chip carving peels off an outer layer of wood, reaching for an essentialized raw experience of the body, of the limbs, exposing flesh and blood. Her work has been shown nationally and internationally, most recently in a solo show Crow and Sandal Series and Other Works at Kaaterskill Gallery, Hunter Village, NY (2019), Labyrinths of the Mind at the Woodstock Byrdcliffe Guild in Woodstock, NY (2019), Nancy Azara: Nature Prints at Saint John’s University, Queens, NY, and Crossing Boundaries: Material as Message at (RoCA), West Nyack, NY.
